Carnival of Sins in Sin City

OK! So, the first night in Sin City of the two night stand didn`t go so well- sound problems abounded and it finally culminated in singer Vince Neil throwing his mic at the sound guy and storming off stage, and no one could blame him. After all, Vegas is Vince`s home town as he is a resident and proclaimed it so proudly in his first rap to the crowd- but the band overall was in top form- it`s ok.
Tommy should have been out reaping havoc on the town of glitter and and strippers since it was his birthday. I admit, we did leave disappointed but having been on the other side of the stage baracade we totally understood what was happening.
Hopefully someone got their ass kicked that night- that was lame dude...

So much for Saturday- On to Sunday!

After leading a PETA protest against J.Crew, Tommy Lee rejoined his band members in the CRUE for a night that RAWKED the Joint inside the Hard Rock Hotel. Tho many of us were afraid that night wouldn`t be happening do to the previous night`s events and called to MAKE SURE the show would indeed go on- we were not in the least disappointed with the second night`s show.

I saw the boys when they played here in March so the two nights in October could either be considered reliving my 80`s insanity or just enjoying a band who continually kicked ass (with that brief period of the pseudo-crue not counting-gen swine sucked) since they first hefted their guitars and a bottle of Jack all those years ago. Nope, this is no nestolgic "back in the day..." shit- this is CRUE dude! VINCE! NIKKI! MICK! AND TOMMY! And the crowd was a lot more than mid 40`s fucks like me who somehow managed to survive too many ludes and shots of Captain Morgan- there were kids there! I mean KIDS who were not even a twinkle in their mother`s eye when they were dancing on the Sunset Strip! KIDS who knew all the words to all the songs and sang along much to the band`s surprise I`m sure!

I am not going to sit here and write a lame review of the night-there has been many reviews written about this tour and you can go reference it over and over again- I will tell you though, the guys who say Crue is too old and needs to go back to retirement need to be slapped down and sent home to their Momma! These guys rock just as hard now (if not better) than they did 20 years ago! The first time I ever saw Crue was the Shout at the Devil tour, Indianapolis Market Square Arena- opening for Ozzy. I did not walk in a Crue fan- my brother was the Crue person- I was there to see Oz, but I walked out that night with a big appreciation for them (and admittingly a huge crush on Mr. Sixx as well!). Ozzy was forgotten about that night, the real show was Motley and I`ve loved them ever since...

Back to Vegas and 2005- I saw a girl close to the stage both nights, no way was she old enough to be around during Crue`s first run, but there she was, down in front with a Nikki Sixx shirt and her hair cut like his complete with the Theatre of Pain war paint and Nikki acknowledged her as well as Vince and Tommy as well when he was walking around with the camera- I caught up to her after Sunday`s show and asked her what the appeal is for someone her age- she could only comment on the musicianship, how legendary they are, and how they are such a big influence on the music she does now- a fledgling musician with metal dreams of her own- how cool! I am sure Motley Crue is a big influence for those out there thrashing on stage whether it be in a garage somewhere or a smokey rock club.

On Sunday at the Joint there was no mic throwing during "Home Sweet Home", no managing to see Vince and Nikki screaming at the offending sound technichian who couldn`t seem to get shit straight the night before through a crack in the curtain- just good ol` lipstick, leather, and heavy metal. Mick Mars is STILL one of the hottest guitarists on the road today- and it seems the tour is doing him well as he was moving quite a bit more on Sunday than when I saw them in March- I cannot think of one of the younger musicians out there that can quite hold a candle to him, Vince can still get the crowd whipped into a frenzy and singing along, Tommy can still get the girls to show their tits, and then there is Nikki- yep, he is still one of the best bad boys out there (who could resist that come to me finger thing?) and he doesn`t ever disappoint his fans... The Crue is probably tighter then they were 20 years ago in retrospect- oh sure they still party (Tommy shared a bottle of Jagermonster with the rest of the crowd, passing it down after taking a huge gulp himself) and Vince dressed as some sort of priest towards the end was deliciously blasphemous (if only I had a priest that looked like that in highschool!) but over all, this band, like fine wine, is aging well... They do NOT disappoint at all, not even when the sound goes out- Hell, Vince could have just walked and finished the show with no mic- the crowd would have sung with him- For some it was their first Crue experience... For me one of the many and I can honestly say, as soon as the next Vegas date is announced I shall quickly get my ticket and be back on the floor once more!
